We regret to inform everyone that we can no longer have the u-pick business. We have recently learned that our farm liability insurance does not cover u-pick operations, and having a u-pick enterprise invalidates our other farm insurance coverage. Our State Farm insurance agent said that State Farm does not offer any policy for a u-pick operation because the risk is too high to insure. Farm Bureau is the only company we know that provides coverage, but the cost is likely to be one half of the gross sales making it unpractical to keep producing berries for u-pick. We are permitted to pick the berries ourselves and sell the blueberries off the farm in order to continue the water project.
We appreciate all of you for supporting the project over the last thirty years. The patch is near its end anyway, but we had hoped to keep it going for a few more years. In the near future we hope to post on this website where our berries will be marketed to the consumer. Sam’s and Wal-Mart stores are providing organic frozen blueberries at a lower price than one can buy berries at other Blueberry farms that have to be picked.
If anyone is interested in picking organic blackberries we recommend our friends Dave and Carolyn Metzger who have a new patch in Mountain Grove, MO. Their berries are only $2.50 per pound, the same as our blueberries were. Their web- site is lonestarblackberries.com.
For those who would like to grow their own blueberries, please see the "Information" section.
